PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Broad spectrum nucleoside antibiotic. Inhibits protein synthesis in prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. Suitable for selection of cells carrying plasmids conferring blasticidin resistance. Application Notes Blasticidin S is used as a selection agent for transformed cells that contain the resistance genes bls, bsr, or BSD. Blasticidiin S has been used to select HEK293-T cells with TLR-2 constructs and HEK-D5 cells. It is also used to study protein synthesis at the level of peptide bond formation. Usage Statement Unless specified otherwise, MP Biomedical's products are for research or further manufacturing use only, not for direct human use. Alternate Names: BLA-S; Cytovirin; Blasticidine S hydrochloride; 4-[[3-Amino-5-[(aminoiminomethyl)-1-oxopentyl]amino]-1-(4-amino-2-oxo- 1(2H)-pyrimidinyl)-1,2,3,4-tetradeoxy-b-D-erythro-hex-2-enopyranuronic acid
Biochemical Physiological Actions : Blasticidin S inhibits hydrolysis of peptidyl-tRNA induced by release factors. It enhances the binding of tRNA to the large subunit of ribosomes and to an extent inhibits peptide bond formation.
